Who can receive Early Intervention Services?
Early intervention (EI) is available for children with or without disabilities from birth through age three. EI is family-centered, focusing on the overall needs of the family to provide the best developmental environment for the child. An Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) is required for a child enrolled in an early intervention program. The EI programs are required through Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and are administered by the Arkansas Department of Human Services through its First Connections program. www.arkansas.gov/dhhs/ddds/FirstConn/index.html
If a parent suspects his/her child may have a developmental delay, a pediatrician or other primary health care provider should be consulted. If a child is found to have a developmental delay requiring early intervention services, the state's early intervention program works with the family to develop an Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP).
